Wine the way nature intended

By Lorelei Helmke

Committed to organically grown grapes and sustainable farming, Halter Ranch is a must-visit winery in the heart of the Hill Country.

Philanthropist and conservationist, Hansjörg Wyss, owns and oversees a 2,700- acre nature estate in the Santa Lucia Mountain Range. On this estate, he has 256 acres of certified organic vines. The wines are produced without pumps, chemicals or any other additives. And the beauty of nature shows through in Halter Ranch wines.

A commitment to the environment is apparent from the moment one arrives on property, from the goats and sheep used in the farming to the delicious, organic
and locally sourced fare prepared by restaurant H.

And it’s by far the best spot ever for
recharging your electric vehicle!

2023 Texas Rosé Grenache| Mourvèdre
Dessert WillowVineyard inSeminole, Texas

The light salmon color is a bit deceiving. This luscious rosé exudes a bouquet of raspberries, tangerine and cantaloupe, the zest of a Meyer lemon and a hint of vanilla. Fruits shine on the palate while a noticeable acidity accents an exceptionally long finish.

Enjoy this lovely wine with a good friend and beautiful sunset.

2021 Effervescent Rosé

Grenache|Picpoul Blanc|Mourvèdre Paso Robles, California

In-tank fermentation creates light-styled bubbles. A hue of pale pink graces the glass while essences of delicate rose

petals and strawberries rise. A light fizz tickles the tongue. There is a hint of passion fruit here and a lovely clean finish. A wonderful apéritif for any gathering.

PasoRobles,California

Clean lines of lemongrass and mineral show in the light hay-hued wine. On the nose you find aromas of Anjou pear, quince, green apple, Key lime and a touch of almond. This is an easy wine with balanced acidity that fancies Thai dishes

2022 Viognier

100%Viognier | PasoRobles,California

It’s everything a Viognier should be. Light, golden straw in color, it offers a dreamy nose of apricot, white peach, orange blossoms, honeydew melon and a tinge of hazelnut. Soft on the palate yet it tingles the gums. It shows proper viscosity with a refreshing, satisfying finish. It would go well with a spinach chicken curry or roast turkey or salmon.

2020 CDP

Côtes du Paso Grenache | Syrah | Mourvèdre|Tannat

Paso Robles, California

Ninety-two percent oak-aged, this garnet-colored wine renders up tart red cherries, smoke, tobacco leaf and cassis. Something in the glass made me think of Cherry Coke. The Tannat adds a bit of backbone. Soft tannins and well-integrated acidity show on the finish. A thinker’s wine to enjoy with a farmer’s board.

2021 Cuvée Alice Grenache | Syrah | Mourvèdre|Tannat

Like the CDP, Cuvée Alice hails from selected vines and blends the varietals at a different percentage The juice is noticeably aged in French Oak. A beautiful ruby hue greets the eye and a bold bouquet of black plum, black berries, red currents, anise, violets and dried tobacco grace the olfactory. Pronounced tannins and subtle minerality enliven the finish.

Served with Sopressa, perhaps on a pizza or braised ribs.

2021 Malbec |Cabernet Sauvignon

Paso Robles, California

Rich and full-bodied, it presents an almost black, purple cast.

Compact aromas of baked black cherries and blueberry crumble intermingle with licorice root and baking spice. Fruit forward and full in the mouth with silky tannins on the long finish. Pair with grilled meats or dried sausages.

2020 Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon | Petite Verdot | Malbec

Paso Robles, California

Deep, dark tones from the start, ruby hues and smells of sweet smoke appear upon approach. A beautiful blend of ripe black cherries, black plums, cigar box, star anise, dark chocolate, and walnuts greet the nose. The long finish is bright with velvety tannins. Pair with mushroom risotto or a Wagyu ribeye.

2020 Ancestor
