66th annual Historic Homes Tour

November 22, 11 am – 5 pm

The weekend before Thanksgiving is the traditional time for the Gillespie County Historical Society and Pioneer Museum to host its tour of Fredericksburg’s historic homes. The eight homes on the tour this year are open for self-guided tours, with docents at each location, on Saturday, Nov. 22, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The tour, a celebration of Fredericksburg’s German heritage and architectural creativity, this year includes the former home of President Lyndon B. Johnsons’ grandparents and a home that showcases the art of local artist Lee Ethel. The partner event, the annual Holiday Market, features a variety of area artists and makers in the Historic Sanctuary and Social Hall, also Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For those who want a sneak peek and chance to be the first to shop, a Holiday Market Preview Party is on Friday, Nov. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. For more information visit pioneermuseum.org.

Light the Night Fredericksburg Christmas Parade

December 5, starts at 6:30 pm

The happiest night in the Hill Country may be Fredericksburg’s annual holiday parade, always held on the first Friday of December. This year’s parade, organized by the Chamber of Commerce and presented by HEB, is on Dec. 5, beginning at 6:30 p.m., and will travel Main Street between Washington and Bowie streets. This beloved parade has turned downtown Fredericksburg into a Hallmark-Channel-worthy experience for 30 years as families from Austin, San Antonio and across the region line the route prepared to share good cheer. The more than150 illuminated floats celebrating the season and the spirit of the community can be seen live on television on CBS Austin, and streaming on Fbg.Live – but there is nothing like enjoying the show from your lawn chair or reserved bleacher seating (available at fbgtxchamber.org). The parade is followed by the AfterGlow event on Marktplatz, with music, food and beverage vendors and free photos with Santa.
